Hashira – Mayhem & Mischief

This workshop explores a playful yet technical approach to tying on a Hashira.
Andi and Lena’s style is shaped by flexible elements that can be used freely, moving away from fixed poses and predetermined sequences.

We begin with the foundations required when working with a rigid, upright structure. This includes technical specifics, additional safety considerations, and an understanding of how tying on a Hashira differs from tying on a ring or bamboo.
A stable technical framework creates the ground on which everything else can unfold.
From there, the focus shifts toward possibility.

What often appears as chaos is, in reality, built from individual components that can be combined, adapted, and reassembled in many ways. Instead of teaching set positions or choreographies, we explore a modular toolbox that allows for different intensities, dynamics, and experiences.
These elements can be used in elaborate or lighthearted ties alike. The goal is not to replicate patterns, but to understand how introducing a rigid structure expands interaction and creative choice.

The workshop combines technical input with creative exploration. Together, we look at different approaches and methods that can be integrated into tying to create tension, playfulness, and engaging interaction.
Because mayhem works best when it has a foundation.

Requirements – person tying
– solid suspension experience and confident upline management
– a suspendable upper body tie that reliably works for suspensions with your workshop partner
– A set of 10 ropes

Requirements – person being tied
– awareness of personal emotional and physical capacities, and the ability to communicate them
– willingness to engage with an emotionally oriented style of tying

No previous hashira experience is required on either side.

Notes
Switching roles during the workshop is not recommended, as the schedule does not allow for covering both roles equally. One person ties, the other is tied.
No specific physical abilities are expected. However, some exercises may not be possible for all participants. As with any form of rope bondage, limited flexibility, joint mobility, or general condition can lead to physical or emotional limits. In such cases, exercises should be skipped or replaced with an alternative. We will try our best to help you adapt the tie so it works for you.
Each pair is responsible for realistically assessing their own mental and physical capacities. Refunds cannot be given if certain exercises or the entire course cannot be completed due to physical or psychological reasons.
